Sustainability at Sublime

The arquitecture of the hotel gives precedence to the selection of sustainable materials that have the least impact on the surrounding nature. Only the central block of many of the villas have a basement, the rest are built on stilts (lower impact build), in addition, to avoid cutting down trees, many of the villas have actual trees built in them. The creation of a minimalist environment, with floor to ceiling windows in which nature plays the leading role is also key in raising awareness for a sustainability attitude. 

Solar panels are used for heating hot water in villas as well as in the main building the Spa building, and the Guest Suites. These are also used for underfloor heating as well as to heat the waters of the swimming pools. The hotel uses mainly led lighting systems. Sublime is 100% autonomous with regard to drinking water and watering. Our wastewater treatment system (WWTP) also allows us to obtain water of sufficient quality to be used in irrigation. We also have a mini Etar for treatment of water.

Our décor uses a combination of well-known brands with artefacts bought from the locals, which simultaneously helps “tell the story” of Comporta and the Alentejo.

We remind our guests to reduce water use by re-using towels and are in the process of reducing single use plastic. No plastic straws are used in the hotel. Many of our communication materials are printed on recycled paper.

The reduction of air pollution is also an issue that sensitizes us. Therefore, we support the electric cars by offering TESLA loading points in our car park.

Produce at Sublime

A sustainable attitude also means ensuring that we include the national and local stakeholders into the tourism experience. In this way we contribute to the local economy. The vast majority of products used are locally sourced.

We have partnerships with local fisherman and farmers and many of our employees are from the area. Our chef gives precedence to regional recipes and uses seasonal produce at our restaurants.

Also the coffee served at the hotel is 100% organic. In its constitution includes a large selection of Arabicas from Latin America - which give aroma and balance to this lot - and a selection of Robustas from Africa - responsible for the intensity and complexity of this blend.

Our biological garden, built on the principles of permaculture, has more than 300 species of aromatic herbs and spices.

We recycle and we have a composting plant that allows us to create substrate through the transformation of organic waste along with garden trimmings for Horticultural application.
